Sinterklaas

Well we celebrated Sinterklaas on Sunday, December 2nd - a bit early, but a wonderful tradition we are trying to keep with the kids. Rylie, Gavin, Breanne, Kristian, Alec, Kailyn, Spencer (Sandy's kids) all headed to Oma's (Ria) for crafts first. We made all sorts of ornaments, candle holders, and christmas trees. When finished (and it took a few hours) we went to Sandy's for rijsttafel. Oom Jan, Tante Flora, Oma and Opa then told all the kids, including Ingrid's Sophia and Lucas, the story of Sinterklaas and sang many songs. When done the kids, who had colored paper bags with a dutch girl and boy on them and had left them by the wooden shoes, ran to see if Sinterklaas had come and left them any goodies. Of course he had! The kids were thrilled with their gold chocolate coins and other tasty treats! We had a wonderful day and evening, and as we were going home - Gavin was so sad that he had not seen the Dutch Santa Clause and was looking into the sky to see if he could catch a glimpse of him on his white horse.

Here is a video link to a Youtube video of Sinterklaas arriving by boat this year - it is cute! Cut and paste the link to view it!
